Scouting success: local group’s year of adventure and plans for the future

Barnstaple Scouts celebrate another year of achievements

Barnstaple Scouts Group

Barnstaple Scout Group is marking another successful year of fostering fun, adventure, and life skills for local young people.

Known for their dynamic and enriching programs, the group caters to children aged 4 to 13, offering a range of exciting activities designed to engage and inspire.

Over the past year, the Scouts, who are aged 10 to 13, have been busy with memorable experiences that have included everything from dueling with lightsabers to scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, and even trying out Mega Stand Up Paddleboarding.

The younger sections of the group have also made significant strides.

Cubs, aged 8 to 10, celebrated their achievements by receiving their highest award while paddleboarding.

Meanwhile, Squirrels, the youngest members aged 4 and 5, have enjoyed their own water-based adventures on the lake, ensuring that every age group has a chance to make the most of their time in Scouting.

This year’s successes have been largely attributed to the dedication of the group's volunteers.

A remarkable 79 per cent of adult volunteers in Scouting participate because they enjoy it, and 70 per cent feel they have a positive impact on the community.

Their commitment is essential to the vibrant and engaging experiences that Barnstaple Scouts offer.

Looking ahead, Barnstaple Scouts are already planning for the future.

The group aims to represent UK Scouting at the Danish Jamboree, an international Scouting camp set to take place in 2026.

For those who prefer to stay closer to home, there are local camps scheduled for the end of September and a visit to an Adventure Centre planned for February 2025.

Prospective new members have an exciting opportunity to get involved.

Barnstaple Scout Group is set to launch a new Scout Troop in the upcoming academic year and invites interested young people aged 10 to 13 to join them at an Open Event on Tuesday, September 10.

This event will allow potential recruits to experience Scouting firsthand.
