There’s been local concern following the news that the building housing Lloyds Bank in Bideford has been sold.

Many residents are worried that this could mean the bank might close or move out of town, especially after several shops have recently left the area.

In response to these fears, the Gazette reached out to Lloyds Bank for clarification.

A spokesperson for the bank reassured residents, stating: “We haven't made any announcements about the Bideford Lloyds Bank branch and, if anything were to change, our colleagues and customers would be the first to know.”

Despite this assurance, local residents remain anxious.

Many are concerned about losing another important service in a town where shops are already struggling.

The building’s sale has sparked discussions beyond just banking, reflecting growing concerns about the future of Bideford’s high street.

On social media, residents have voiced their thoughts.

Clare Janzen commented on the Gazette's Facebook post, saying: “What will visitors come to Bideford for anymore? Our little white town was once a thriving community, and now its history has disappeared.”

Steven Jefferies said: “Everything will end up online in the end. Even the superstores will turn into warehouse outlets for online orders eventually. Then the question will pop up about going cashless due to how customers have had to end up shopping. It's only a matter of time before coin and paper money end up in a museum on display.”

The Gazette will keep readers informed about any changes related to Lloyds Bank in Bideford.
