A local Landkey resident has voiced concerns to the Gazette regarding a construction company's decision to commence building despite the pending status of their planning permission.
The planning permission, applied by Pearce Construction, is currently awaiting approval from North Devon Council.
The proposal outlines the erection of 20 residential dwellings, comprising both open market and affordable housing.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, reported: “Pearce Construction has begun work without planning permission on a site on Birch Road, Landkey.”
North Devon Council responded to these concerns, stating:
“The Section 106 agreement for this development was completed on Monday, 29 July and we intend to issue the planning decision notice this week.
“We would not encourage any developer to start works without planning permission being in place and any works carried out are at the developer’s own risk. However, as the planning permission is due to be issued this week, it would not be in the public interest to pursue any form of enforcement action in respect to any building works having taken place.
“The developer will of course have to build in accordance with the approved plans submitted to the council.”
