The National Trust is gearing up for an exciting series of sea life surveys spanning 100 miles of North Devon and Exmoor coastline from July 26 to August 4, inviting members of the public to participate in these informative and hands-on events.

From Hartland to Hurlstone Point, participants can join rangers and volunteers at various locations such as Heddon’s Mouth, Mortehoe, and Hurlstone Point.

Activities include rockpool rambles and a unique silent disco beach clean at Woolacombe, offering a fun way to engage with coastal conservation efforts.

Amy U’Ren, Volunteering & Community Officer for North Devon National Trust, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming surveys: “After the success of last year’s surveys we are excited to be able to welcome the public to get involved again and have fun while learning about surveying and coastal environments.”

These events are not only educational but also contribute to significant scientific endeavours.

Data collected during the surveys will be submitted to the Sea Watch Foundation as part of the National Whale and Dolphin Watch, helping to build a comprehensive picture of marine life in UK waters.

The trust says volunteers play a crucial role in the National Trust’s conservation efforts, and these events offer a gateway for individuals to explore potential volunteering opportunities across North Devon and Exmoor.

Amy encourages anyone interested in nature and outdoor activities to join: “We are always looking for people who love nature and the outdoors to join our friendly, welcoming volunteering community.”

For those keen to participate, the sea life survey events are free drop-in sessions, while booking is required for rockpool rambles (priced at £5 per ticket).

More information about these events and volunteering opportunities can be found on the National Trust's website or by contacting northdevon@nationaltrust.org.uk.
