Motorists travelling along the North Devon Link Road (NDLR) are advised of an upcoming overnight closure between Landkey roundabout and Portmore roundabout due to essential roadworks, exacerbated by recent hot weather conditions.
Griffiths, the contracted construction firm overseeing the NDLR improvements, announced that the road closure is scheduled to take effect from 10pm on Sunday, June 30, until 6am on Monday, July 1.
The construction company announced that the decision to close the road during these hours is essential to allow sufficient time for the final surface course to cool adequately.
This cooling period is crucial for the safe installation of permanent road markings by the appointed white lining contractors.
In a statement, Griffiths said: “Due to the hot Weather, it is necessary for the NDLR to close the road between Landkey roundabout and Portmore roundabout on Sunday 30th June. This is to allow additional time for the final surface course to cool, which will then allow the white lining contractor to install the permanent lines. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
In response to the closure, diversions have been planned by Griffiths in collaboration with Devon County Council.
Motorists approaching Barnstaple are advised to follow diversions via Mount Sandford Road, directing traffic onto Landkey Road to minimise disruption and maintain traffic flow.
The ongoing enhancements to the NDLR form part of a broader effort to improve connectivity and safety across North Devon's road network
