An innovative Barnstaple housing project has won a prestigious national award under the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).

Pearce Construction was crowned as bronze winners at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards 2024 for a development that was delivered in partnership with community landlord, North Devon Homes.

The project created two new affordable two-bedroom homes for social rent at Beechfield Road in Fremington, by making use of unused land already owned by North Devon Homes.

As well as providing the new homes, the development made improvements to parking and access for both new and existing homes, alleviating parking pressures on a busy main route serving the local school.

Pearce Construction’s housing director, Nick Hopkins was thrilled by the win. He sayid: “This award recognises our outstanding commitment to the Code of Considerate Practice to drive higher standards across the construction industry and to the efforts that we make to be the most considerate neighbours.

“A big congratulations to our team for the standards they set on site and for their communication and engagement with the local community.”

The CCS awards celebrate exceptional efforts of considerate constructors in elevating industry standards. Winning a CCS National Site Award is the mark of the highest levels of performance in respect for the community, care for the environment and value of the workforce.

Paul Scovell, development manager at North Devon Homes added: “We are delighted this project has delivered additional affordable housing to the local area for our customers.

“The homes were built in excess of building regulations and designed to modern standards including an air source heat pump which has a lower environmental impact than traditional heating systems. The project also included betterment works to the adjacent property alongside additional parking which will benefit the area.

“This project has been another successful collaboration between North Devon Homes and Pearce Construction, who are renowned for their quality builds and high standards. We congratulate them on this well-deserved win.”

The project was made possible thanks to funding by North Devon Homes and supported with capital grant funding from Homes England, and additional funding contributions from North Devon Council. The project was designed by Fearnley Lott Architects, with project support provided by Taylor Lewis.
