Bideford's Art Upstairs gallery is set to host a Charity Art Exhibition from Friday, June 7, to Sunday, June 9, in support of the Alzheimer's Society.
Organised by members of the 'New Atlantic Wave' group of artists and makers, the exhibition will feature artworks from over 180 members of ArtMakers.
This event, marking the first charity exhibition at Art Upstairs since its opening in July 2023, highlights the local artistic community's dedication to supporting those affected by dementia. With the fourth exhibition of the year, artists aim to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care and research across the UK.
Art enthusiasts can expect a diverse display of original oil paintings, ceramic sculptures, prints, and cards capturing the essence of North Devon's landscape, local landmarks, and imaginative creations.
Phil Parker, Director of ArtMakers, shared his personal connection to the cause.
He said: “Most of us have some personal knowledge of people suffering from dementia from relatives to neighbours. For me it is a family member and our next door neighbour – so every week we realise memories are slipping away.”
Visitors to the exhibition have described the experience as "inspirational," emphasising the impact of art in raising awareness and supporting charitable causes.
The event will commence with a private view on Friday, June 7, followed by public viewing from 10am to 4.30pm on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9.
Located on the 1st Floor, 24 the Quaye in Bideford, with entrance on Bridgeland Street, the Art Upstairs gallery invites individuals to contribute to the Alzheimer's Society's mission even if they cannot attend the exhibition in person.
For people who will not be able to attend the event they are able to donate to ‘Alzheimer’s Society’ on behalf of ArtMakers at https://www.justgiving.com/page/artmakersartexhibition?
