A Barnstaple DJ has completed an extraordinary challenge to support children and young people with cancer.

Marc Austin, known for his work on The Voice FM, has successfully completed four marathons in four days to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer, the UK’s leading charities for young cancer patients.

Marc completed the challenge on June 1 in Barnstaple.

Despite suffering a knee injury that forced him to walk the first half of the final marathon, Marc pushed through, driven by adrenaline and the support of the North Devon community.

Reflecting on the experience, he said: “What can I say, the whole thing was life-changing! Crossing that line was one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced – happiness, relief, and joy. Not just for me but for my family, who have supported me through the whole thing, and the charity, which will make such a difference to so many families on their cancer journey. I wouldn’t change a thing and would do it all again in a heartbeat!”

Starting his journey on May 29, Marc ran from the charity’s Home from Home, CLIC House in Bristol, to The Voice FM radio station in Barnstaple.

His goal is to raise £15,000 for the charity, which offers crucial support to families navigating cancer treatment.

Young Lives vs Cancer assists children and young people (ages 0-25) and their families facing cancer.

The charity provides specialist support through social workers, free accommodation near hospitals via Homes from Home, and financial grants to help with cancer-related costs.

Last year, the charity supported 126 families from Devon and 322 from the South West.

On average, families stayed at the charity’s Home from Home for 33 days, significantly reducing their travel costs.

So far, Marc has raised more than £4,000 but is determined to reach his £15,000 goal.
