The Met Office has upgraded its weather alert, issuing a yellow warning for thunderstorms across all of Devon.
Previously, the warning was only effective to parts of Devon.
The warning, which is effective from 12pm to 9pm today, signals the potential for severe weather conditions throughout the region.
Residents and travellers are advised to prepare for adverse weather, as thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and persist for approximately nine hours.
Given the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, the Met Office urges residents to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions.
The Met Office's warning outlines what individuals should expect:
Spray and Sudden Flooding: Motorists should anticipate difficult driving conditions due to spray and sudden flooding, which could lead to road closures. Travellers are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes if necessary.
Transport Disruptions: The occurrence of flooding or lightning strikes may result in delays and potential cancellations to both train and bus services. Passengers are advised to check for updates from transportation providers and plan their journeys accordingly.
Risk of Power Cuts: There is a slight chance of power cuts occurring in some areas, potentially affecting homes and businesses. Additionally, other essential services may be temporarily disrupted, requiring individuals to prepare accordingly.
Potential Property Damage: There is a small chance of rapid flooding to homes and businesses, posing a risk of damage to buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their properties and belongings.
