Dog owners are being asked their opinions on life with their four-legged friends
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is rallying local dog enthusiasts to contribute to the nation’s most comprehensive dog census, the National Dog Survey.
As the rate of people owning dogs continues to soar across the UK, the dog welfare charity is seeking insights from owners on a spectrum of topics including breed preferences, preferred walking spots, welfare concerns, and behavioural patterns.
The survey, running until June 14, is inviting dog guardians to share their experiences and perspectives through an accessible online platform at www.dogstrust.org.uk/dog-survey-24
Data from the National Dog Survey 2024 will play a pivotal role in shaping Dogs Trust’s initiatives and support systems tailored for the nation’s dog-owning community.
Building upon insights garnered from previous surveys, such as the launch of the Behaviour Support Line in 2023 and the establishment of pet food banks, Dogs Trust aims to enhance its services in alignment with evolving needs.
Last year’s survey, which drew participation from 244,478 owners contributing insights on 348,533 dogs.
Notably, Labradors emerged as the UK’s most beloved pedigree, with Cocker Spaniels closely trailing behind.
Despite not cracking the top ten most popular breeds, Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshunds witnessed an 85 percent surge in popularity.
Furthermore, the survey illuminated trends in dog ownership behaviours, revealing that 7 percent of UK dogs now accompany their owners to work, despite the majority of workplaces prohibiting pets.
Additionally, over two-thirds of dog owners have opted to bring their furry companions along on domestic holidays.
Poppy and Alfie clinched the title as the nation’s favourite dog names, closely followed by Bella and Charlie.
Moreover, last year’s survey affirmed the unprecedented surge in puppy acquisitions during the pandemic era, evidenced by a notable rise in the population of one and two-year-old dogs compared to pre-pandemic years.
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe has encouraged local dog lovers to lend their voices to this influential initiative, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of canine companionship in the UK.
