Registration deadline approaching for iconic 80s-themed fundraiser

Last chance to sign up for North Devon Hospice’s Nightwalk!

Emma Bray will be participating in Nightwalk. She has also been having care from the hospice

The deadline for entries for North Devon Hospice’s Nightwalk is soon approaching with the hospice encouraging eager participants to sign up before it’s too late.

Set for Saturday, May 11, Nightwalk promises to be an unforgettable journey through the vibrant 1980s along the illuminated Tarka Trail.

Scheduled to whisk over 1,000 spirited women and girls back to the retro era, this event isn’t just about fun; it’s about supporting the critical work of North Devon Hospice as they mark their 40th anniversary.

Participants will groove to classic 80s beats while walking different routes between Barnstaple, Bideford, and Instow, all to raise funds to help the hospice continue their vital services.

Among those eagerly anticipating the event is Emma Bray, a hospice patient from Barnstaple, who shares her story: “After being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), I was referred to North Devon Hospice and ever since then, it’s felt like a warm safety blanket around me and my family. My hospice nurse, Emma, who visits me at home, is a breath of fresh air and has helped me deal with the end-of-life decisions and planning – something that can be incredibly difficult, especially with young children."

Emma, determined to give back, is joining Nightwalk with her friend Jen and their daughters, Ada and Zarah.

For 40 years, North Devon Hospice has provided care for local people like Emma who are affected by MND and other life-limiting illnesses.

As well as offering support at home, patients can also be admitted to their Bedded Unit when symptoms become more severe, for help with pain management and to make them feel as comfortable as possible when they need it most.

She said: “Transitioning to using a wheelchair has made me realise just how inaccessible and hard the world is with a disability. While the 7 miles at Nightwalk will be very uncomfortable for me, being part of the event will hopefully help me to raise even more awareness for this great charity while allowing me to make some special memories with the people I love.”

To register for Nightwalk and make a meaningful difference, visit nightwalk.co.uk before May 8.
