Rangers in North Devon are issuing a call, seeking volunteers to join their ranks in their conservation efforts.

Scheduled from April to July, the initiative will see volunteers teaming up with rangers to tackle a variety of tasks aimed at preserving the area's country parks and nature reserves.

The diverse range of activities is set to provide participants with valuable insights into local ecosystems while offering a chance to make a tangible difference in safeguarding them.

The programme promises a blend of hands-on conservation work, skill-building opportunities, and the chance to forge connections with fellow nature enthusiasts.

The inaugural event on Thursday, April 25, will focus on rush removal at Northam Burrows, targeting invasive plants to create optimal conditions for rare dune species to thrive.

Subsequent activities include weeding around newly planted trees at Kenwith Valley on Thursday, May 16, and conducting plant surveys at the council's wildflower meadows and verges, culminating with another session at Northam Burrows on Thursday, July 11.

Additionally, beach cleans at Westward Ho! are scheduled for Sunday, May 19, and Sunday, June 23 between 10am and 12pm, providing opportunities to contribute to coastal conservation efforts.

Volunteers for this event should meet rangers at the slipway.

The initiative, spearheaded by Councillor Lyndon Piper, Lead Member for Leisure, has said: "Volunteers are crucial to the success of the programme. Their contributions make a huge difference in helping us preserve the beauty and biodiversity of our natural landscapes."

All volunteer events are open to the public free of charge, with equipment provided on-site. While beach cleans welcome drop-ins, pre-booking is essential for other events due to limited space.
