Appledore RNLI has expressed their delight in congratulating two of their crew members on their recent engagement.

Natalie Simmons and Richard Withey, who have been together for 15 years, share a remarkable journey both in life and in their service to the RNLI.

Having joined the crew together over seven and a half years ago, their engagement comes as a joyous surprise to their colleagues.

Richard Withey shared the tale of his proposal, revealing that the question popped unexpectedly, tied to their beloved dog's tail.

The crew, filled with happiness for the couple, is thrilled that Natalie and Richard have decided to cement their love with a wedding early next year.

During their tenure of seven and a half years at Appledore RNLI, Natalie has fulfilled multiple roles including serving on inshore and all-weather lifeboats, navigating, operating the helm, and is presently undergoing training as a coxswain.

Richard began as shore crew, overseeing launch and recovery operations for both vehicles and serving as the head launcher. He later transitioned to become a crew member on both lifeboats, achieving certification for both roles.

He is currently a trainee all-weather boat mechanic.

The station has said Natalie and Richard are very involved in planning next year's 200th anniversary celebration of Appledore getting its own RNLI lifeboat.

The pair want to make these celebrations extra special!

Bob Meller, the Appledore RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, expressed his joy, saying: "We are thrilled to hear this news. Congratulations to Natalie and Richard from everyone at Appledore RNLI."
