Organised by Bideford Amateur Athletic Club and led by race director Alan Heard, the marathon drew in participants and spectators alike.

Runners were treated to breathtaking views and the unique experience of traversing through a tunnel, all while navigating a moderately flat course that posed both challenges and opportunities for speed.
Excitement buzzed as participants vied for coveted prizes, including cash rewards for top finishers and the chance to set new course records.
Ronnie Richmond emerged as the undisputed champion, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, and 30 seconds.

His triumphant moment took on an endearing twist as he halted his race to scoop up his son to help him cross the line.
For the ladies, Rebecca Azra claimed the top spot, finishing the race in 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 15 seconds. Her impressive performance fell just short of the course record, had she been one minute faster.

Alan Heard expressed pride and said: "It was a brilliant event; everything went as it should do. No major problems."
He told the Gazette of the race's significance as a cornerstone of Bideford's sporting calendar, noting its enduring popularity and positive impact on the region.
Alan also looked ahead to the future, with plans already underway for next year's milestone 30th anniversary of the race.
Reflecting on the marathon's evolution, he recalls its change from a massive event with 15,000 participants to a more manageable size to address logistical concerns.
Despite the challenges, Alan has remained committed to delivering exceptional experiences for participants, ensuring that the Bideford Half Marathon continues to inspire and unite athletes of all abilities.
He looks forward to upcoming events like the Bideford 10k on Sunday, May 12 at 10.30am.
He has extended a warm invitation to all.
