Southmead Primary School students in London
Students from Southmead Primary School in Braunton have been given an extraordinary opportunity which took place Friday, February 2, as they visited No. 10 Downing Street.
The visit saw year 5 and 6 pupils, accompanied by staff, travel to London which formed part of Children's Mental Health Week
The purpose of the visit was to meet with Mrs. Murty, wife of Rishi Sunak, to discuss mental health and wellbeing.
The visit included a mental health and well-being lesson tailored to engage and educate the young learners on the importance of mental health awareness.
The excitement began earlier on January 26, when the school received an invitation from 10 Downing Street to participate in an event on February 2.
The event coincided with Children's Mental Health Week and was organised in collaboration with Place2Be.
Mr. Plumb, the Headteacher, was thrilled to receive the invitation.
Departing from school premises in the early hours of the morning at 4.15am, pupils and staff made their way to the heart of London by coach, arriving mid-morning to meet with Mrs. Murty.
The visit then concluded with an opportunity for a photo session outside the iconic Number 10 Downing Street.
A school spokesperson expressed their delight, stating, "It was a great opportunity for our children, and everyone had a fantastic time."
