Communities in Barnstaple, Soulth Molton and Tawstock set to thrive with more than £358,000 in funding

The communities of Barnstaple, South Molton, and Tawstock are set to receive a substantial funding boost of over £358,000 in a bid to boost community enhancement projects.

The funding follows a decision made during a recent meeting of the North Devon Council's Strategy and Resources Committee held on Monday, February 5.

The approved allocations are set to cover a diverse range of projects, each designed to enrich local amenities and promote community well-being:

1. South Molton Football Club: £178,292.29 to support the development of new pitches and clubhouse facilities, providing a hub for sports enthusiasts to gather and engage in healthy activities.

2. South Molton Bowls Club: £9,621.95 allocated for the purchase and installation of solar panels on their pavilion, a move towards sustainable energy solutions that benefit both the club and the environment.

3. South Molton Town Council: £60,000 designated for the acquisition and installation of play equipment in Central Park, fostering outdoor recreation opportunities for families and children.

4. South Molton Town Council: An additional £20,000 to extend the BMX track in the Woodlands on Parsonage Lane, catering to the adrenaline-seeking youth of the community.

5. South Molton Town Council: £33,680.45 allocated for the improvement of the skate park in Central Park, creating a safe and enjoyable space for skateboarders and BMX riders.

6. Barnstaple Rugby Football Club: £41,137.21 earmarked for the refurbishment of the old cricket pavilion, with a focus on providing dedicated female changing facilities, promoting inclusivity in sports.

7. United Services Bowls Club: £1,500 awarded to complete the refurbishment of their clubhouse, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment for members and visitors alike.

8. Tawstock Village Hall: £13,788.07 allocated for the purchase and installation of battery storage units accompanying recently installed solar panels, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.

Councillor Ian Roome, Leader at North Devon Council, expressed his satisfaction with the approval of the significant Section 106 Public Open Space Funding.

He shared the council's commitment to nurturing vibrant and inclusive communities, highlighting the anticipated transformative impact of these investments.
