Torridge District Council is proudly supporting National Apprenticeship Week, a special time to celebrate apprentices' achievements and their positive impact on communities, businesses, and the economy.

This year, the week-long celebration runs from Monday, February 5, to Sunday, February 11.

Torridge has a long history of participating in apprenticeship programs, helping young people develop workplace skills while earning qualifications. Currently, the Council has five apprentices in different stages of their courses, working in services like Waste and Recycling, Planning, and Building Control.

Councillor Ken James, Leader of Torridge District Council, shared his thoughts on the importance of apprenticeships and said, "Creating an environment that supports the development of highly skilled and well-paid jobs is one of our strategic goals. As an employer, we are dedicated to nurturing local talent. Our aim is to provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to acquire transferable skills in the workplace and improve their lives."

The council actively encourages apprentices to grow and progress by offering a comprehensive support and development program. This initiative is carefully organised and monitored through both senior and operational management teams, leading to professional qualifications. In some cases, apprentices even get the chance to apply for full-time job vacancies within the council.

Councillor James highlighted the positive outcomes of these programs, mentioning, "Apprentices are placed in various departments across the Council, and many of them go on to become full-time staff members." This commitment to investing in local talent not only benefits individuals but contributes to the Council's broader goal of creating a skilled and thriving workforce in the Torridge area.
