South Molton Community Primary School is celebrating a significant achievement after receiving a 'good' rating in all areas following a recent Ofsted inspection in December 2023.

Headmaster Tom Parkin expressed immense pride in the positive outcome of the inspection and highlighted the fantastic school environment that was acknowledged by the inspectors.

Throughout the inspection, which included meetings with leaders, staff, and governors, as well as interactions with pupils and visits to various lessons and extracurricular activities, the inspectors commended the school's commitment to providing a well-rounded education.

Ofsted inspectors said: "The school has clear ambition to meet the needs of all pupils. The environment and ethos are used effectively to support and nurture the individual needs of pupils."

The report commended the school for its great achievement in creating a curriculum that extends beyond the national curriculum, incorporating learning about nature and sustainability. The extensive school grounds are creatively used for outdoor learning, enhancing pupils' education beyond academic subjects.

The positive atmosphere at the school was recognised, which highlighted the high expectations for behaviour.

According to the report, pupils were praised for their politeness, good manners, and considerate behaviour towards others. The school's behaviour policy, centred on building positive relationships, received appreciation, fostering an environment where pupils learn without disruption and demonstrate positive attitudes towards learning.

However, the report also noted there was some room for improvement going forward as the inspection highlighted some pupils have "gaps in their knowledge" as "teachers do not yet check what pupils already know and can do in all subjects."

Moreover, the report confirmed the school's proactive approach to addressing areas for improvement.

But the carefully constructed curriculum was highlighted as a strength, providing a coherent sequence of learning across various subjects. The report acknowledged the school's dedication to breaking down knowledge, ensuring pupils follow a structured learning path.

Headteacher Mr Parkin said: “As headteacher of this wonderful school I am hugely proud of the children, staff and community who fully deserve this hugely positive report. Well done to the entire school community and I look forward to working with you all as we move forward on the next stage of our journey together.”
