Dogs Trust Ilfracombe issues plea for towel donations to keep canine companions warm and dry

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is seeking towel donations to help keep their rescue dogs dry and warm this winter. Fred is one of the many dogs at the centre looking for his forever home.

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is seeking donations of old towels to help keep their canine residents warm and dry during the winter months. The centre is specifically in need of larger towels, given the prevalence of big dogs currently in their care, but they welcome contributions of smaller towels as well.

Towels can be donated directly at the centre during opening hours and for added convenience, a donation box is available outside the reception area for those wishing to contribute outside of regular hours.

Elise Watson, centre manager at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe said: “We always need towels (we get through a lot!) but particularly in the winter when our dogs get wet whilst out on walks. A nice big towel does a brilliant job at drying them off and getting them warm again.

“The response from the public has been good – lots of towels have already been donated, but we always need more!”

“Once the towels get too thin to use for drying the dogs, we cut them up and use the strips to make snuffle mats, so we wring every use out of them that we can!”

“We’ve got lots of big dogs in the centre at the moment so the bigger the towels are, the better. Bath towels are what we’re most in need of, but we certainly won’t turn away smaller ones.”

“All we ask is that the towels are still useable – they certainly don’t have to be perfectly white and fluffy, but we can’t really use towels that have holes in them or any that are smaller than a hand towel.”

Elise expressed gratitude for the positive response from the public and emphasised the ongoing need for contributions.

In addition to towels, treats for the dogs are welcomed and those interested can explore the Amazon Wishlist for easy online donations.
