The National Trust’s West Exmoor Ranger team is looking for new volunteers to join their ranks in 2024.

From tree planting and footpath work to surveying, events volunteering and even photography, there are a host of roles, each crucial to the landscape-scale conservation work the charity undertakes.

The National Trust in North Devon is holding a volunteer recruitment drop-in session on Saturday, February 24, between 10am-1pm at the Hunter’s Inn, Heddon Valley.

Anybody interested in volunteering in the North Devon countryside can pop in on the day to chat to members of the team about the different roles available and to find out about the benefits of volunteering for the National Trust.

Volunteers have the opportunity to tailor their volunteering experience to their own interests and schedules, from flexible volunteering hours that fit around their commitments to following their passions on particular projects and accessing for free interesting nature skills training.

Bob Walters, volunteer with the ranger team at the Heddon Valley, said: “You will see places you’ve never seen before, views to take your breath away and learn skills you never thought you would. Every minute you give is not only valued, but absolutely appreciated by our National Trust Rangers.”

The Trust believes volunteering for them is a great place to start a career in conservation, with many young volunteers going on to roles in the environmental sector. Volunteer roles are flexible and can offer people a great opportunity to learn something new, meet new people, get active in beautiful places, or to add something different to their CV.

Amy U’Ren, Volunteering & Community Officer, said: “Volunteering out in nature is the most brilliant way to make new friends, get active, and to help care for this beautiful part of the world that we are so lucky to live in. Our team of rangers and volunteers are great fun and love what they do, and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome and lots of biscuits!”

Those attending the volunteer recruitment drop-in session will receive free car parking at Heddon Valley for the day.
