Barnstaple v Bideford in Christmas clash
Boxing Day rugby at Barnstaple RFC was another roaring success, as the club played a hat-trick of thrilling matches with their North Devon neighbours from Bideford RFC.
In the showpiece game, the Chiefs of Barum defeated Bideford 26-12 in a cracking encounter, while there were also victories for Barnstaple Athletic and the Colts. Once again, however, local rugby was the real winner.
The Christmas feast of rugby extended to Ilfracombe RFC, with more than 200 supporters cheering on the players for the traditional game between the first XV and a squad of Ilfracombe old boys. It was a brilliant day for the club and more evidence that rugby is thriving in North Devon.
In the professional arena, Exeter Chiefs moved top of the Gallagher Premiership with a 24-14 win at Bristol on Friday evening. Tries from Josh Iosefa-Scott, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso (2), Stu Townsend and Jacques Vermeulen sealed the win for Exeter.
