Gte your tickets at the start of December for Croyde Ocean Triathlon 2024.
Tickets go on sale next week for the 10th anniversary instalment of the Croyde Ocean Triathlon – with a few new elements added for competitors taking part next summer.
Billed as one of the UK’s most challenging and scenic sporting events, the Olympic course event on Sunday, July 14 involves a 1.5km ocean swim at Putsborough Sands, followed by a 37km circular bike ride and a 12km off-road run over hilly coastal terrain.
This year the team have introduced the Still Stunning But Less Savage Sprint Triathlon, which takes in a 750m ocean swim, 18.5km bike route on the quiet local lanes and a 5km off-road run across coastal terrain.
The team at Croyde Ocean have also added a new circular bike route for the Olympic triathlon, which takes competitors on a stunning route with 2,200 feet of elevation.
Environmental charity Plastic Free North Devon (PFND) own and operate the event, with 100 per cent of profits going to charity.
In a bid to share any funds raised to other charities, unlimited free charity places have been made available and funds raised will be split between PFND and any charity of the competitor’s choice.
Croyde Ocean Triathlon continues to officially partner with local charities; and 2024 sees Over and Above join Children’s Hospice South West and Family Compass. If you would like to directly support either of these charities through this event, please get in contact with them directly.
Race director Jo Hibberd said: “The entire team is excited about the new Olympic bike route and the newly added sprint race. We remain 100 per cent committed to the safety of every competitor and will again have the very best in medical and water safety with us on the day.”
The Croyde Triathlon team is also aiming to be a leading light in sustainable sports events nationwide and has been working closely with PFND to create and implement a robust sustainability plan for the next few years.
Jo added: “We are tackling our carbon footprint in a variety of ways, from small, easier to implement ideas to harder more complex ones, we are tackling it all.
“As an example, we are tracking the carbon used by competitors to get to the race. So far 57 per cent of competitors are car sharing, 12 per cent are cycling to the event and a further six per cent are taking the train. We are now looking at options to help athletes get from the train station to the event village.”
Claire Moodie, CEO of PFND, said: “After rummaging through every bin on site last year, we are very aware of what we have to implement to reduce our waste and recycling footprint in 2024 as well as further improving the overall sustainability of the event.
“From providing appropriate and sustainable waste streams to working closely with our suppliers/traders and providing on-going and effective communications to participants and spectators, our approach will continue to be an evolving holistic one and we are so excited for 2024.”
The main corporate sponsor for both events continues to be North Devon based dryrobe®. Other sponsors include Ninety One, 79 Group, BornBound, solicitors Brewer, Harding and Rowe, and Putsborough Sands.
