On October 17 and 18 Ofsted visited Chulmleigh College for a Section 8 ungraded inspection, with the aim of determining whether it is still a ‘Good’ school.
In its findings Ofsted said: "The evidence suggests that the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded (section 5) inspection were carried out now."
The inspectors commented: “Pupils are proud to be part of this extremely ambitious school; they thrive at this school, are eager to attend, recognise the importance of excellent behaviour and are happy and safe.”
Other comments included: “Teachers and staff are proud to work at Chulmleigh College; help pupils become independent and resilient learners; have an unwavering focus on pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged and cultivate the aspirations of all pupils through a rich and demanding curriculum”.
Executive Headteacher Michael Johnson said: “Staff, pupils and the Board of Directors work with great skill and go the extra mile, time and time again. It is pleasing that Ofsted recognised that on this occasion. All that said, we know that we are not perfect and in order to provide the best educational standards we can, we will continue to focus upon things we can improve as little is more important than the education of our pupils.”
