A thought-provoking and funny Edinburgh Fringe favourite is coming to the landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe on Thursday, November 9 with a true story of stand-up comedy, neuro-divergency, neuroscience, wearable tech and possibly an unexpected treatment for ADHD…
Delving into amateur stand-up culture and trying to make peace with a messy brain, Head Set is a joyful and mischievous documentary-theatre show from Victoria Melody, celebrating neurodiversity and an exploration of the social model of disability.
While wearing a brain scanner to scan her noggin while cracking jokes, the show follows Victoria’s journey into finding authentic self while trying to succeed in the mainstream.
A documentary theatre maker by trade, it all began when after a hard tour, she decided to take a crack at stand up comedy. But what sounded like genius in her head came out of her mouth as garbled mess, so she sought the help of a speech and language therapist which led to her eventual diagnosis as neurodivergent.
So she took her late age diagnosis of ADHD and autism to neuroscientists and started working with them to examine the scientific potential of stand-up as self-medication for ADHD, using wearable tech to scan her brain while she delivered jokes….
Head Set is the chronicle of Victoria’s journey, a bonkers, hilarious and galvanising celebration of becoming your authentic self.
The show starts at 7.30pm. For tickets, go to https://www.landmark-ilfracombe.com/event/victoria-melody-headset or call 01271 316523
