Bideford boxer Aaron Bird continues his fine run

Bideford Boxing Club’s Aaron Bird took his winning streak to three fights undefeated in a terrific bout held in Swansea, beating Dylan Courtney from Cornwall.

Bird boxed behind his jab well in the first, keeping his shorter opponent at range. In the second, the Bideford boxer began to bring in the right hand, landing some solid body shots.

The pattern continued in the third with Courtney marked up around the eyes from stiff punches. Bird was made to work hard in the last, as the Cornishman came out swinging but he used all his experienced to stay out of trouble and gain the points win.

Bird said of his victory: “I’m really pleased with the win, I had a tough opponent coming to win and I handled him well. It showed the better opposition I’m up against, the better I look. I walked him on to some big shots.

“It’s been a great first year as a pro for me with three fights undefeated. My manager Richard Grigg has already agreed for me to fight for the Welsh Title early next year, I’m enjoying the process and feel I’m ready to be fast tracked.”

Bideford Boxing Club travelled to Trelewis with two promising youngsters boxing against the host club.

Marley Barnes put in an energetic performance with non-stop pressure against Ceri Olson. In the second, the pressure got too much as Olson required a standing count from a sold right hand.

The pattern continued in the last, prompting the ref to step in and stop the contest after a four-punch combination, meaning another win for the 11 year-old Bideford Boxer.

Jed Avery topped the bill in a rematch against Ashton Waterhouse, who he had previously beaten. This time it was a better version of the Welsh boxer as he hit and moved from range. Avery caught up with him in the last, winning it big, but couldn’t make up for the positive start from Waterhouse.
