Rosie has found her loving forever home after spending most of her life in kennels
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is celebrating its 185th happy rehome of the year, as a deaf bearded collie crossbreed finds her forever family.
Two-year-old Rosie arrived at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in January of this year from a different centre.
A social and friendly pooch, Rosie has endured several challenges in her short life. She is deaf and was likely born deaf, plus has a hip condition which requires regular medication and physio sessions.
Rosie spent more than seven months at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe, before being adopted.
Elise Watson, centre manager, said: “We are delighted Rosie has found a forever family, she is a lovely pooch who was down on her luck for a long time.
“When she arrived, Rosie had spent most of her life in kennels, and we were worried she might find it difficult adapting to home life.
“But, after a period with a foster family, where Rosie coped really well, we felt she was ready to find a new home.
“Rosie’s new owner, Susan, is fantastic. She’s previously owned deaf dogs, she had a Belgian shepherd who she taught using hand signals, and has had experience with bearded collies – so it was a perfect match.
“However, while this story has a happy ending, the work does not stop. We still have many dogs who need forever homes – and who are looking for loving owners!”
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is also calling on more people to offer a temporary foster home to dogs until they find their forever homes.
Not only does this mean the charity can support even more dogs, but it gives dogs waiting to find their forever family the chance to be cared for in a home environment.
Fostering is a great opportunity for dog lovers to care for a dog in their home without the long-term commitment that comes with owning a dog.
Dogs Trust covers all the essential costs whilst a dog is in a foster home, including vet bills, food, bedding, and toys.
