Powerful home win for North Devon Hockey

North Devon Hockey Club hosted a strong Caradon team, who won their first game of the season 13-1.

The home side enjoyed an excellent start, winning a short corner that was calmly slotted home by striker Guy Cockcroft. A masterclass from man of the match Jay Corden stopped any chance of a quick reply from the away side and another short corner saw Ben Cox volley home a second goal.

North Devon started the second half not easing up on the Caradon defence, keeping up with the high intensity, resulting in Ashley Thorne volleying in the third and Sam Kirkness with a composed finish to make it 4-0 to the Reds.

With the hot weather taking its toll on both teams, North Devon conceded two quick goals but Caradon left their last push to rescue a point too late as the final whistle blew with North Devon picking up all three points and will hope to take this perfect team performance into next Saturday when they travel away to Duchy.

North Devon 2nds played out a feisty 2-2 draw with ECV Hornets 2nds, with the skipper praising his team’s effort and composure on a day when the draw was a fair result.
