Barnstaple RFC and Bideford RFC in pre-season friendly action

Pre-season preparations are entering the final stages for local rugby clubs and both Barnstaple RFC and Bideford RFC will be pleased with the fitness levels on display from their respective squads.

Over 300 supporters visited Pottington Road for the visit of the Hornets in a pulsating friendly, and the Chiefs were rampant with their expansive rugby, seemingly crossing the whitewash at will to record an excellent 56-14 victory. Barnstaple Athletic also performed well before losing 15-28 to Cullompton.

The rigours of pre-season training were given some welcome relief with a trip to the beautiful Saunton Sands last week. The players were still put through their paces but the sweat was mixed with glorious sunshine and scenery.

Bideford went down to a 35-14 defeat at home to a very strong Launceston RFC side but will be hugely encouraged by the commitment and quality on display. Bideford Ladies, meanwhile, are inviting new players to join their training programme ahead of the new campaign. Training is held on Wednesdays and Sundays, with more details on the Bideford RFC Facebook page.

South Molton RFC are another side feeling fairly content with their summer exertions, as they defeated Torrington 20-15 to retain the Cawthorne Cup.
