Where is Heaven will have its debut screening outdoors, in the heart of Exmoor - Credit: Gerard Bryan
In 2013 Devon based film maker Gerard Bryan persuaded his friend Dave Rafique to help him make a short film about people living off-grid in North Devon… ten years later, and after interviewing more than thirty off-gridders, ‘Where is Heaven’ tells the intricate story of their lives…
Gerald Bryan is an experienced film maker and art director, having worked on popular tv series Babylon as well as features including Penelope and The Sweeney.
The documentary film delves into the lives of people who have chosen an alternative lifestyle, one far away from the intense scrutiny of everyday life. Gerald Bryan said: "It’s a story that began as a small tributary and became a powerful confluence. You’ll struggle to find social media chatter here, or indeed any of the day-to-day formality and frivolity that society constantly seeks our engagement with."
The film, with an evocative musical score from Cosmo Sheldrake, features an eclectic mix of characters, originating from all walks of life, who, for one reason or another, have chosen an existence with strong links to nature.
Fittingly, Where is Heaven will have its debut screening outdoors, in the heart of Exmoor, at one of the locations featured, namely The Poltimore Arms at Yarde Down.
The screening is on Saturday, July 29, at 9pm.
The flyer suggests you bring your own chair for comfort, though camping facilities and refreshments are available.
