An energetic trio of singing sisters from Sweden bring their unique take on American roots music and ‘banjopunk’ to Barnstaple this March.
Baskery are known for their spirited live shows and unique sound created on a six-string banjo, upright bass, acoustic and electric guitars and drums, with some great harmonies too.
The three will be appearing at Junction 27 in Boutport Street, Barnstaple, on Friday, March 15.
The trio quickly made a name for themselves in the Americana and folk scene and broke new musical grounds when they sealed a record deal with WBR bros (Los Angeles) in 2014.
The band has made appearances at numerous festivals and earned support slots for renowned artists such as Robbie Williams, Brandie Carlisle, Gary Clark Jr, Lukas Nelson and Seth Lakeman.
In their late teens, the sisters joined forces with their dad, who for decades, was a one-man band playing old blues and country tunes for a living. They named the band Slaptones and released two albums on EMI Sweden.
This foundation of classic ‘roots and Americana’ settled in their hearts, but also awoke the urge of breaking the rules of traditional music. Baskery is a band built on what three people can do together and it's all about turning the music on its head, blending the straightforwardness of punk with the subtlety of singer-song writing.
