It has been a nightmare two months for Exeter City, 13 games without a victory and a run of results that has seen them plunge from mid-table safety to a scrap for League One survival.

The Grecians were cruising when they won 3-1 at Port Vale on January 24, Jayden Wareham banging in the goals and there was an impressive assurance across the whole squad.

The loss of manager Gary Caldwell to Wigan Athletic seriously derailed City and, as it stands, the decision to reappoint former boss Matt Taylor on an interim basis until the end of the season has not worked out.

A 2-0 defeat to Caldwell’s Wigan was a painful blow last weekend and now the Grecians welcome an in-form Leyton Orient at St James Park this afternoon.

City can take heart from the fact Port Vale, Northampton and Rotherham look to be cut adrift at the bottom, but there is still one more relegation slot to be filled. The Grecians are only above Blackpool on goal difference….and inevitably, Blackpool v Exeter is the Good Friday showdown.

To make matters worse for City fans, arch rivals Plymouth Argyle, who have no game this weekend, are knocking on the door of the play-offs. Argyle welcome City to Home Park for a potentially crucial Devon derby on Saturday, April 11.
