Bosun Bob sails into Dartmouth classroom for World Book Day

A Devon-based children’s author paid a special visit to a Dartmouth primary school to celebrate World Book Day.

Erin Allgrove visited St John’s Primary School Dartmouth on Thursday morning, where she met children from Classes 1, 2 and 3.

During the visit, Erin read excerpts from her popular children’s books, Bosun Bob The Salty Old Sea Dog and Bosun Bob and the Cat With No Name, delighting pupils with tales of seaside adventures.

Children also shared stories of their own pets and sailing experiences, sparking lively discussions inspired by the nautical-themed books.

Pupils in Class 2 were given a special opportunity to help shape Erin’s latest story, which is due to be released this summer. The new book tells the story of a seagull who has a difficult start in life but eventually finds happiness and the freedom of flight.

Young readers were invited to give feedback on the storyline, illustrations and front cover design, offering their thoughts on the character’s journey and how the book should look.

Erin said the visit was a highlight of her year.

“School visits especially on World Book Day are always such a highlight of my year! I’m so lucky to be invited to schools to meet such imaginative and creative children! We’ve had great fun this morning!”
