Torbay primary school earns national recognition

Kings Ash Academy early years team celebrates national recognition for inclusive practice

The Early Years team at Kings Ash Academy is celebrating after receiving a nationally recognised award for its commitment to inclusive education.

The school has been awarded the Dingley’s Promise Mark of Achievement, which recognises excellence in inclusive early years practice and celebrates settings that create nurturing, accessible environments where every child can thrive.

The award acknowledges the school’s work to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as its focus on early identification and tailored support. Staff have completed extensive training to strengthen their understanding of SEND, inclusion, and early intervention strategies, ensuring children receive individualised support from the very start of their education.

The recognition also reassures parents and carers that their children are learning in a setting where belonging, communication and emotional wellbeing are prioritised. The school says the award has strengthened partnerships with families and helped ensure children’s needs are understood and their voices heard.

The Dingley’s Promise Mark also reflects the academy’s strong culture of professional development and teamwork, with staff regularly reviewing their practice and adapting provision so that inclusion remains embedded across learning.

Headteacher Rob Fitzsimmons said:“We are absolutely thrilled to receive the Dingley’s Promise Mark of Achievement. This recognition reflects the incredible dedication of our Early Years team and their commitment to ensuring every child feels valued, supported, and able to thrive. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, and this award reinforces our belief that every child deserves the very best start in life.”

Nursery Room Leader Christina Taylor added:“This award means so much to our team. We work hard every day to make sure every child feels included and supported, and achieving the Dingley’s Promise Mark shows that our efforts are making a real difference. It’s a proud moment for us and for the families we work with.”

The school says the award will continue to guide future development as it enhances its learning environment, refines its curriculum, and further embeds inclusive approaches across its Early Years provision.
