Brixham AFC celebrate victory
Brixham AFC started 2026 with a must-win encounter at Wall Park, and the Fishermen duly delivered courtesy of a returning favourite.
Brixham and visitors Tavistock started the day as the bottom two in Division One South of the Southern League, knowing that defeat for either team would make survival very difficult.
On a bitterly cold day, those pressures were evident in a scrappy opening, with Tavi enjoying the better chances, although without really threatening an opening goal. From the home perspective, Charlie Johansen had a shot blocked and James Moxon was thwarted at the near post after a cross from Fin Herbert.
After the break, Brixham began to exert some control and the crucial opening goal when the visiting custodian parried a low drive and Reece Somers was on hand to slot home the rebound, a particularly special moment for the powerful midfielder on his return to Wall Park.
The Fishermen then retained control for the remainder of the game, Scott Beattie outstanding at the back, and gloss was added to the victory by a late penalty from Aaron Wellington. Next up for Brixham is a trip to fellow strugglers Swindon Supermarine and a chance to build some momentum.
