Police have thanked licensees in Brixham after carrying out checks across local pubs to support safe nightlife.
Officers from the South Devon Neighbourhood Support Team, joined by the local Police Licensing Officer, visited 11 pubs on Saturday 15 November.
Both uniformed and plain-clothes officers took part in the operation to ensure a thorough review of the venues.
During the visits, staff awareness of the national ‘Ask For Angela’ scheme was tested. The campaign allows customers who feel unsafe or worried to discreetly ask for help, such as arranging a safe journey home.
Officers reported that all venues demonstrated a strong understanding of the scheme and how to support vulnerable people.
Drug-wipe testing was also carried out in both male and female toilet areas, with officers providing direct feedback to Designated Premises Supervisors. This guidance aims to help pubs maintain safe and responsible environments.
Sergeant Matt Gill said the operation had been “extremely positive” and highlighted the importance of the partnership between police and local pubs. He added that another operation is planned, which will include a passive drugs dog.
He said: “Their co-operation and proactive attitude play a huge role in keeping Brixham’s nightlife safe for everyone. Thank you to all the venues involved for their support.”
