ALERT: Devon prepares for weekend downpours as Met Office issues further yellow warning

A new yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office for parts of Devon, including central and eastern Dartmoor, from 6am Friday (14 November) until 6am Saturday (15 November).

It follows a previous yellow alert for yesterday (Tuesday 11 November), which brought heavy downpours and localised flooding overnight, including reports of flooding in the Monksmead area of Tavistock.

According to the latest Met Office forecast, the heaviest rainfall is expected over Exeter, Chagford, Ashburton, Princetown, Crediton, Chudleigh, and Exmouth.

Areas such as Tavistock and Plymouth are on the outskirts of the warning zone, but may still see periods of persistent rain and strong easterly winds.

Forecasters say the rain could total 30-50mm quite widely, with 60-80mm or more possible on the east-facing slopes of Dartmoor. 

The Met Office warns this may lead to surface water flooding, difficult driving conditions, and disruption to bus and train services.

Residents are advised to:

• Check flood alerts and prepare a flood plan or emergency kit if needed.
• Avoid flooded roads and allow extra time for travel.
• Prepare for power cuts by keeping torches and chargers ready.
• Stay updated as weather warnings can change at short notice.

The yellow warning means there is a low chance of severe impacts, but further disruption is possible, especially across Exeter and eastern Dartmoor, as wet weather continues into the weekend.
