Home success in the fastest 10-miler Devon has to offer

Victory for Bideford runner in the 10-miler through the streets of North Devon

It was billed as Devon’s fastest 10-miler and hometown boy Ronnie Richmond read the script perfectly as he sprinted to a brilliant victory.

The Bideford 10-miler is a hugely popular event in the south-west racing calendar and Richmond from Bideford Amateur Athletics Club ensured there was plenty of North Devon pride by winning the men’s race in a time of 51:55.

Richmond was a minute clear of second-placed Christian Hewitt from Tiverton Harriers, with Jack Dee from St Peters making up the top three in the men’s race.

Nikki Kelly from Tavistock Athletics Club won the women’s race in a superb time of 1.00:35, ahead of Amie Walker from Best Athletics and Taunton’s Emma Kiernan.

As the pictures from Graham Hobbs demonstrate, it was a fabulous day celebrating running in North Devon, as the elite athletes joined 750 other competitors in showcasing local sport.
