Petroc netball top the table in College League

Latest sporting news from Petroc College

Petroc netball maintained their positive start to the league season with a 40-19 win over St Brendan's College at home.

After a slow opening to the game with more unforced errors than normal, Petroc bounced back with some excellent passages of play and vital interceptions from the defence. Petroc got into a strong position in the game then gave some court time to some of the newer players to gain valuable experience.

Player of the match was awarded to Tilly Hill by the opposition and Megan Rook by the Petroc team. That result keeps Petroc sitting at the top of the league.

Petroc Men's football team played a league game at home to Truro and although they were on the end of a 3-1 reverse, coach Andy Rose was pleased with the improvements.

He said: "Being 3-0 down at half time after competing well was disappointing but the lads took everything we talked about on board and went out to win the second half, we'll be taking that forward with us to our next fixtures."

On Wednesday, November 13, Petroc teams from women's football, tennis and ability football all travelled to Taunton to compete in the latest round of Regional Championships.

Women's football, on their first outing of the year, started with a draw against Yeovil, a tight loss against Truro and a win against Strode before finishing the day with tough games, losing against Exeter, Richard Huish and eventual winners, SGS College.

Coach Jason Jamal said: "The team togetherness and attitude is a credit to the girls, I can't fault their commitment and work ethic. It's a step in a positive direction for the women's football programme and I hope today's performance can inspire more girls to play at college. It's been a good day and they should be really proud of themselves!"

Nick Beer was Petroc’s sole entrant into this year's tennis tournament. Nick played some really good tennis and was eventually knocked out at the semi-final stage by the tournament's number 1 seed and age group ninth ranked player in the country.  Some good experience gained for Nick who felt inspired afterwards to ramp up his training regime and come back stronger next year!

The Rocks, Petroc's ability football team, played a straight final against Weston College, there have been some really good tussles between the two colleges in recent season and unfortunately Weston edged this one taking a 3-0 win. Alex Bird, coach of the Rocks, was really pleased with his team and how they conducted themselves and the students had a great day out!

Lots of sport happening at Petroc College, which is always great to see.
