The sheltered waters of Ilfracombe Harbour ensured dozens of brave swimmers and paddlers were able to take part in the annual Christmas Day Dip to raise money for the RNLI.
Despite an air temperature of around five degrees, half that of the sea temperature, the popular event still saw plenty of people turn out in their Christmas swimming cossies, with Santa hats and lots of festive cheer.

This year the event was organised by Coastal Swim Coaching and its founders Terri Ingram and Allie Kaufman, with hot drinks provided after by the RNLI.
Kayak safety boats were on hand throughout the swim, which took place from the slipway in front of Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station.

Following the dip, Terri and Allie posted on the Coastal Swim Coaching Facebook page: “To say that was bracing is an understatement… in all our years of sea swimming, that may just have been one of the coldest, windiest entries yet!
“Huge thanks to everyone who came to dip or spectate, to James and Simon for the wonderful kayak support and to the RNLI for opening their doors and keeping us warm with hot drinks.
“Well done everyone, what a fabulous way to start Christmas Day.”
