As communities across the nation gathered on Remembrance Sunday to remember the fallen and pay tribute to their sacrifice, Barnstaple also gathered for its annual well-attended and poignant public Remembrance Service at Rock Park.
Despite a morning of heavy rain, there was a large turnout from residents to watch the remembrance parade, led by the Barnstaple Mayor and councillors plus troops from RMB Chivenor, local uniformed services, cadet groups and youth organisations.

Dignitaries attending the service, which is organised by Barnstaple Town Council alongside the Barnstaple branch of the Royal British Legion, included North Devon MP Ian Roome.
There followed a short service and the traditional Act of Remembrance at the Rock Park war memorial as the large crowd lined to pavement and footpaths to look on for the Last Post, two minute silence and laying of wreaths in honour of those who have fallen in conflict.
The park was also the setting for the annual Children’s Remembrance service on Friday, featuring local schools and youth organisations.
The town’s historic Albert Clock at the Square is also lit up at night with a poppy for the duration of the remembrance period.

The Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Janet Coates, said: “Remembrance is a time for us all to pause and reflect on the bravery, sacrifice and service of those who came before us and those who continue to serve today.”
