Pictures – Sham Fest hits the spot and the right notes for beer and music lovers

Sham Fest at the Pollyfield Centre in Bideford has been hailed a great success as people gathered to enjoy a love of real ales and live music

Bideford’s annual charity beer festival Sham Fest has hit the spot for thirsty revellers once again with a successful two day event over the weekend.

Starting on Friday night (October 17) at the Pollyfield Centre, visitors enjoyed live music, craft gins and rum, plus cider and a wide range of ales from local breweries and producers.

The festival continued throughout the day and into the night on Saturday, with a wide range of music from local performers and with something for all tastes to enjoy.

Organiser Huw Thomas said he was delighted with the result of the event.

He added: “The numbers of people were definitely up on last year and there was a lovely atmosphere with everyone enjoying the beers and the music.

“As well as raising money for the Food Pantry and other worthy causes, Sham Fest has also turned into a great event for both the people of East-The-Water and the wider community to enjoy.”

Huw said Sham fest should have raised more £2,700 once all had been counted, an increase over the 2024 total of £2,244.

He went on: “Our judging competition was great fun and I think having our Sham Fest Champion Ale, plus a silver and bronze medal winner, helped people who weren't sure which of the 21 beers to try!

“I'd like to thank everyone who made it happen. Sham Fest wouldn't take place without the backing of local businesses who sponsor the various drinks, the musicians who come and play for free and the volunteers who help out behind the bar.”
