Bideford Boxing Club hosts top night of boxing
Bideford Boxing Club hosted a top night of boxing at the Pollyfield Centre featuring 12 bouts and 10 boxers from the host club.
The event was packed out and had several professionals in attendance supporting the club, undefeated prospects Billy Stanbury and Aaron Bird and Title Challengers Conor Mcintosh and Angelo Dragone.
Top of the bill was Jed Avery against the Western Counties development Middleweight champion Alfie Troop. Avery set about his work early getting on Troop’s chest working on the inside. The pattern continued in the 2nd, as Avery worked away at his taller opponents body. Avery had a big lead going into the last but finished strong giving Troop a standing count in the last from a solid right right cross to seal the unanimous win.
Boxer of the night went to 11 year-old Tucker Mills having his first bout against Alexander Jones from Port Talbot. Mills gave up a reach advantage but took it to Jones roughing him up in the first round. Jones got back to his boxing in the 2nd scoring with straight shots. It was level going into the last, Mills scored with big overhand rights as Jones scored with flurries. Jones won the split decision but both boxers got a standing ovation from the crowd for the efforts.
Jackson Passmore didn’t need all three rounds to get the job done against Oakley Hill from Torbay but Charlie Passmore came up just short against Kai Carhart from Bodmin losing a split decision.
Rocky Grigg put in a mature performance against Shane Long from Sturminster Newton to gain a unanimous win. Riley Chappell recovered from an over-eager start to beat Alfie Snook on a split decision. Pete Fitzgerald showed his class boxing in a unanimous win over George Rogers from Stallion ABC.
Marley Barnes and Ethan Walcott from King Alfred went toe to toe from the first bell to the last before the Bideford boxer emerged victorious on another split decision.
