NORTH Devon clubs fared well at the National Youth and Nipper Surf Life Saving Championships at Gyllingvase Beach, Falmouth, despite unfamiliar flat conditions.
Woolacombe's youth team took their seventh successive national youth title and Woolacombe Nippers came second to Cornish giants Portreath.
Saunton Sands came sixth in the Youth and fourth in the Nippers competitions and Bideford Bay and Croyde both also came in the top 10.
Some 500 Nippers from 19 clubs took part in the competition.
Woolacombe started well on the 1km run with gold medals won by Callum Redrup, Megan Councell and Max Radford, with Molly Ashford silver and James Wilson bronze.
Their team of 46 nippers looked strong in the sea, with many individual and team medals. Jessica Surridge took gold in the board and golden nipper events and silver in the swim and was a major part in the team's taplin and board relay golds She also won silver with Charlotte Hamer in the board rescue.
Callum Redrup took gold in the 1km run, wade and swim and silver in the flags and board. He also helped his young 8/9-year-old team of Bob Whittkaker, Max Radford, Jake Liversedge and Mathew Squires to a further three gold team medals.

Charley Elliott of Saunton Sands came away from the national event with four gold and three silver medals in the 14 years age group.
He took gold in the ocean boy, surf race, board race and tube rescue events and silver in the ocean man, 1k run and single ski race to also win the under-14 trophy.
