Young guitarists on song at arts festival

Local talent on show at annual awards event

YOUNG North Devon musicians, choristers and dramatists have been celebrating their talents at the 29th North Devon Performing Arts Festival.

The festival – held in venues in Bideford, South Molton and Barnstaple from October 28 to November 12 – featured instrumental, vocal and choral, dance and speech and drama categories.

Among the winners (pictured) were young musicians from the North Devon Guitar Ensemble. Hannah Woollacott won the Festival Medal at Grade 7; Jess Worth won the Masters Cup at Grade 5, Myles Payne came second and Beth Woollacott third. Catherine Way won the Miles Ahead Cup at Grade 3, and Oliver Kinsella won the Des Miles Cup as well as the Festival Cup for most promising guitarist (12 years old and under) at Grade 1 level.

The winners from all the different categories will perform at a gala concert which takes place on November 27 at Bideford College Theatre.
