Young cyclists’ success in Somerset

Joseph Bulmer

FOUR young riders from Taw Velo Cycling Club of Barnstaple took part in the Kalas Cup cyling race at Ilton in Somerset.

The event is a two day race for adults, with support youth races.

Lewis Ross from Northam took first place and Henry Huxtable from Beaford second in the U8s event.

Alex Ford from Landkey took second and Dominic Cork from Cobbaton narrowly missed a placing in the U12s. The boys started their warm up preparations in heavy rain, which continued throughout the race, making the surface extremely difficult to negotiate the corners. But they all managed to stay upright and even a strong headwind with heavy rain on the final straight did not seem to diminsh their final sprint.

Taw Velo Cycling Club meets in Barnstaple every Saturday at 10am for youth riders. Contact
