Braunton Community College student Jack Hart through to the next stage of annual culinary contest.
ASPIRING young chef Jack Hart from Braunton has gained a place in the North Devon finals of the annual Rotary Young Chef competition.
Jack beat five contestants in the local heats of the competition at Braunton Community College with a chicken tarragon main course followed by a delicious lemon meringue pie.
The young cook each had to create their own menu, prepare a time plan identifying each activity and cook a two course meal for two people in a maximum of 90 minutes and under the watchful eye of the judges.
The contest is run by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland, in association with olive oil brand Filippo Berio, to encourage culinary creativity amongst young people aged 11-17 years old.
Last year more than 4,000 people entered and were shortlisted down to eight after competing in local and regional competitions - now and Jack is hoping he can produce the best possible meal that will take him through to this yearâ€™s regional and then national finals.
â€œWe have been so impressed by the skills Jack has shown in the kitchen and we wish him further success in the competition,â€ said Peter Kingdon from Braunton Caen Rotary Club, which is sponsoring Jack.
