BARNSTAPLE U14s claimed victory over Tavistock 12-10 in a nail-biting Devon Plate final.

Barnstaple pushed deep into the opposition half early on, but Tavistock's defence held firm and they fought back and scored the first try of the game from a breakaway.

After a period of parity, with defences on top, Tavistock scored another breakaway try to lead 10-0 at the break.

The second half was a stalemate until Barnstaple's Joe Dimelow started a move that ended in James Newman breaking through for a try. Barum pressed again, but failed to break Tavistock's defence.

At the other end Sean Davies put in a bone-crunching tackle to deny Tavistock a try.

Tavistock played the last 10 minutes a man down after losing their hooker due to injury.

Barum took the game to Tavistock in a frantic finale and with Dan Barrett holding the back line together the ball was fed to Newman, who sprinted over for a second try.

Will Fishleigh stepped forward to take the conversion and, after taking a moment to compose himself, sent the ball flying through the middle of the posts to snatch victory with the last kick of the game.
