Wurzels concert closes Taunton season

Taunton Racecourse bring down the curtain on their 2010-11 season in style on Tuesday April 12th when they host an evening meeting starting at 4.45pm, which is followed by a concert by The Wurzels, for which the gates will open at 3pm.

This season has seen some thrilling action out on the course at England’s youngest jumps course and with an attractive total of �36k on offer in prize money for the seven race card the curtain looks like coming down with another thriller.

The meeting, which is sponsored by Totepool begins with The Bet on Totplacepot at Totesport . Com selling handicap over two miles and one furlong, with the sponsors presenting a memento to the winning owner and awarding a �50 cash prize to the groom of the best turned out horse.

The most valuable race on the card The Free Racing Post Form at Totesport.Com Novices’ steeple chase over just half a furlong short of three miles follows at 5.15pm with a total prize fund of �6,500 on offer.

The raceday sponsors will present a memento to the winning owner and a �50 cash award to the groom of the best turned out.

The P4 Marketing Novices’ hurdle race, sponsored by the Orchard Portman courses’ marketing company, owned by Steve Boxall, and run over two miles and about three and a half furlongs follows 30 minutes later.

The Bet on Live Sport at Totesport.Com handicap steeple chase over two miles three is next up at 6.15pm with a prize pot of �6k on offer.

The Gary Gabriel Associates Handicap Hurdle race over two miles and about three and a half furlongs is the next action on the course and goes to post 30 minutes later.

Gary Gabriel Associates (www.ggauk.com) are consulting engineers, with a local office based at Blackbrook in Taunton and will be sponsoring a race for the first time at the course.

The penultimate race of the day is the Ronnie Wallace Hunters’ Steeple Chase over half a furlong short of three miles, the winners of which will be presented with the Ronnie Wallace Challenge Trophy, in addition to which the groom of the best turned out will receive a �40 cash award.

The final action of the evening is the Bet on Tonight’s Football at Totesport.Com handicap hurdle follows at 7.45pm run over three miles and about half a furlong, making it the longest on the card, which has prize money of �5,000 on offer.

For what promises to be an extra special meeting, where in addition to the action packed racing on the course, there will be a Pimms, as well as a Cider tent, there will be just one enclosure and one price, �18 per person (accompanied children under 16 admitted free) to include The Wurzels in concert.
