WORK is underway to repair one of Barnstaple’s historic Pannier Market.

North Devon Council is carrying out a programme of maintenance work including replacement of roof-light glazing plus repairs and redecoration to high level louvers (ventilation slats) in the 156 year-old listed building.

Work is expected to take four to six weeks and efforts are being made to keep any disruption to a minimum.

“The Pannier Market is a valuable asset to the town and it’s important to invest in its upkeep and maintenance. The market is in almost constant use so we are carrying out these repairs out of season to minimise disruption to traders and visitors and will have them finished before Easter,” said Leader of the council, Councillor Des Brailey.

The work will be carried out every Sunday and Monday until the end of March.
