Wooly cruise into cup final

WOOLACOMBE & Mortehoe played some of their best football of the season at they cruised into the final of the Arlington Cup with a 3-1 win at home to Merton.

Stuart Haynes grabbed a 25th minute equaliser after the visitors took an early lead at the Meadow.

By half-time, Mark Turner had put the hosts 2-1 up and after the break, there was no looking back as Alex Boyd added a third on the hour.

Woolacombe will play Wrey Arms in the final at Marlborough Park, Ilfracombe, on Saturday, April 30, kick-off 7pm.

The Wrey beat Clovelly 3-0 with goals by Joe Gillard (2) and Jimmy Hill. Hill opened the scoring in the first half but Gillard stole the show in the second, capping a fine performance with a superb second goal.

In the league, Wayne Parkhouse scored his fifth goal in two games as Equalizers beat AFC Anchor 4-1 on Saturday.

Parkhouse bagged two and there were singles for Matt Hawkins and Nico Pfieffer in the game at Rock Park.

On Sunday, leaders Wrey Arms were beaten 2-1 at Putford Reserves. Gillard scored the consolation goal for the leaders with 15 minutes to play.
